Disneyland is an entertainment park in Anaheim, California, owned by the Walt Disney company. Founded by Walt Disney and his business partner and brother Roy, the park is dedicated to family entertainment and operated as a for-profit venture. The concept of Disneyland arose from Walt’s imagination of creating a place that entertained, informed and amused its visitors.

What is Disneyland?

Disneyland is a theme park in Anaheim, California. It opened on July 18, 1955 and has undergone several expansions from its original 130 acres (0.5 km2). It currently occupies 500 acres (2 km2) of land and employs 23,000 cast members as of 2012.

The park’s name was changed from Disneyland to Disneyland Park to distinguish it from the larger Disneyland Resort complex which includes two resort hotels (the Paradise Pier Hotel and the Grand Californian Hotel), a Downtown Disney shopping complex known as Downtown Disney District, and several non-Disney hotels owned by third parties. The resort complex also features two additional theme parks: California Adventure which opened in 2001; and Mickey’s Toontown which opened in 1993.
