8 Tips For Styling Curly, Kinky, Coily Hair

Hair Styling

Curly, kinky, and coily hair can be a beautiful thing when properly styled. But styling curly hair requires special knowledge that you won’t find in any of the many how-to style tutorials out there. Several curly-haired women and men seek my help every year as I teach them about caring for their natural curls. In this article, I will share with you eight tips for styling curly, kinky and coily hair.

Use a comb.

If you have curly hair, you know that the best way to style it is with a comb or brush. If not, then this is the time to pick up one and start using it! You’ll find that they’re easy to use, and they help keep your hair in place while styling. Just remember that when using combs or brushes on wet hair (like after showering), be gentle so as not to damage your strands.

Refrain from the shampoo every day.

Shampooing too often can dry out and damage your curls — especially if you have a natural texture like kinky or coily hair types. So try not to wash your hair every day; instead, try washing twice a week or every two weeks at most. This will keep your strands healthy and prevent breakage from happening too often!

Be gentle when you rinse.

You don’t want to shampoo your hair too much or too often. You want to make sure that the moisture from your shampoo is extracted from your scalp and not from the rest of your hair. So be gentle when rinsing out your shampoo and conditioner.

Add some oil after you get out of the shower.

After you get out of the shower, add a little oil to your damp hair. This will help seal in moisture and make sure that your curls stay soft and bouncy throughout the day.

Stick to silk rather than cotton pillowcases.

When it comes to styling curly hair or whether it is curly extensions, you should always use silk pillowcases to sleep on at night because they help keep moisture locked in while they’re resting on top of your head all night long! Cotton doesn’t always do this job as well because it lets moisture escape over time (which can cause frizzy curls).

Try African threading for a style.

African threading is a great way to get long, straight hair. It’s also great for women with curly or kinky hair because it can be used on all types of hair. If you want to try threading, visit your local beauty supply store and ask for an appointment with a stylist. Make sure you tell them exactly what type of curl you have and how long your hair is before they begin the process. If you have short hair and want it buzzed up, this may not be the best option for you because it will leave a noticeable buzz on top of your head.

Make sure your hair gets enough moisture and protein.

Hair needs moisture just like skin does! Hair needs protein so that it can grow and repair itself when it gets damaged or overwritten with color or bleach treatments over time. Protein bonds keratin together in strands to form the hair shaft, which makes it more substantial than other types of hairs, like wigs or extensions, which don’t have any protein in them at all! When your hair gets stripped from its natural oils due to product buildup and heat styling tools (like flat irons or curling irons).

Invest in a quality, wide-toothed comb.

Investing in quality, the wide-toothed comb is great to add to your best routine for your curly hair, kinky, or coily hair. Wide-toothed combs are gentle on your hair and can help to detangle it without causing breakage. They also help to distribute oils and products throughout your hair evenly. Look for a comb that is made from durable materials such as wood or plastic and has smooth, rounded teeth to minimize snags and pull.

Conclusion:

It’s good to be aware that some hair care products are better for curly or kinky hair than others and that some styling techniques work better than others, too.
