How Can Career Counseling Support High School Students?

When you begin your high school journey, you are still testing the waters and enjoying life. You are good at some things and bad at others. You have your passion, and this makes you unique. However, having thought about a career is the last thing a high schooler does. We don?t really pay much attention to what we want to do in the future. We have no idea what the future holds or how to deal with the outside world. High schoolers are just taking one step at a time, as they should. They are more focused on thinking; I need to take my exam and pass with flying colors.

It is only when they are near graduation, they are hit with a reality check. What do you want to do for the rest of your life? We all have to ask ourselves this question at one time or another. The sooner we do, the better. However, what career choice does one pick for themselves? How many careers are out there? In such a situation, career counseling steps in to help. Career guidance counselor helps students worldwide in determining the field/career most suited for them. If you are confused about which field to go into, we have compiled some tips for you to go through. Let?s talk and discuss each one of them.

Know Yourself

The first key to knowing what you should do in the future is to know yourself. You have to understand who you are and what ?specific? things make you. Some people are more brainy, while others are better at being physical. Some are sensitive in nature, while others are more aggressive. You need to dive deep into yourself and truly know who you are. For instance, people that are more sensitive in nature prefer to choose fields like nursing, health care, etc. People who are more aggressive in nature tend to be in sports that demand aggression. Know which lane you fall in before choosing a career.

Know Your Passion

Another important thing is your passion. You need to ask yourself, what am I passionate about? What is that thing that wakes me up each day? What is that thing that doesn?t bore me? Maybe it?s literature, movies, cinema, or sports. Passion can be anything, and you need to ask yourself what is yours. Some people like science, some love music, some are cinephiles, while others love sports. Know your passion, and then think about choosing a career.

Narrow It

Once you are done with figuring out your passion, you need to narrow it down. What do we mean by that? Well, if you love computers, there are numerous fields that you can go into, namely, software engineering, big data engineering, development, and so forth. For students who are enrolled in an online class, I need to hire someone to do my online class; the internet is filled with potential services. All you need to do is search and hire. As for the careers, narrow your passion into one specific field and give it your all.
